Some of the most famous landmarks include the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer (one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World) at 130 feet tall and built between 1922 to 1931 atop Corcovado mountain, rising 700 metres above sea level. Begin your cruise of the Amazon

Boca Da Valeria

Boca da Valeria is a small village on the banks of the Amazon in between Santarem and Parintins. It sits on the Rio Negro one of the tributaries of the Amazon where the Valeria river joins it. The village is surrounded by the Amazon rainforest and makes a great place to explore the jungle.

Overnight on board in port.

Manaus

Manaus marks the furthest point  that most cruise ships can reach up the Amazon. It is situated approximately 900 miles upriver from the coast at a major fork of the Amazon where the Rio Solimoes meets the Rio Negro to form the main Amazon River. Enjoy the mesmerizing spectacle of the meeting of the waters where the cooler sandy-coloured water of the Amazon River and the warmer and clearer black water of the Rio Negro collide. You would expect two rivers that meet to blend into one another but that is not the case here as the two types of water flow distinctly side by side for a further 6km beyond Manaus.

Parintins

Parintins is situated on the eastern edge of Amazonia state in between Manaus and Santarem. This city of approximately 120,000 people is on the island of Tupinambarana on the edge of the Amazon River and is a unique destination that combines rich cultural heritage with stunning natural beauty. The city lies 200 miles down river from Manaus and 700 miles up river from the estuary of the Amazon on the Atlantic Ocean. It makes the perfect staging post to explore this wide island strewn stretch of the Amazon. Whether you're interested in wildlife, jungle ecology, outdoor adventures, or local cuisine, there's something for everyone to enjoy in this vibrant city.

Santarem

Known as a hidden gem, Santarém is a small city rich in local culture, regional cuisine, breathtaking natural wonders and it has a rich history. Located where the Amazon River meets the Tapajós River- 500 miles up river from the Atlantic, Santarém boasts beautiful scenery, a rich and fascinating history and a mix of traditional dishes and local specialties. The city has a historical importance that dates back to the Portuguese explorers. Whether it’s a day trip, an unforgettable experience or a deep dive into the cultural events of the Amazon, this is the place to be.

The final leg of the Amazon through the estuary and back to the Atlantic coast.

Barbados

This is probably the most popular island for British holiday makers and the first of three Caribbean destinations. There are two reasons for this - the incredible white sand beaches on the sheltered western side of the island and because it's the only Caribbean Island to be colonised by one nation – the Brits! You will even find a Trafalgar Square here. Bridgetown is the capital lying in the South Western corner of the island. There is a large cruise dock where shuttle buses take you from the cruise ship to the terminal. The closest beach to the cruise terminal is Boatyard Beach - a white sand happening beach that is well equipped particularly in its Adventure Beach area with lots of things to do. There is an entrance charge which includes sunbeds and a free shuttle back to your ship. Barbados is famous for its Golf Courses – particularly at Sandy Lane, its cricket and perhaps take time out to visit Sunbury Plantation House over 300 years old.

Antigua

Antigua is one of the top three Caribbean Islands for the British holiday maker – being a great destination in itself; Antigua has 365 beaches - one for every day of the year; the most popular ones being Galley Bay and Hawksbill Beaches. Antigua is extremely popular with the sailing fraternity with many marinas packed with expensive yachts. Nelson's fleet was hosted in the late 1700's in a picturesque bay on the other side of the island to the capital and is now one of the best-known bays for said sailing fraternity – now aptly named Nelson's Dockyard.

St Thomas (US Virgin Islands)

St Thomas is part of the US Virgin Islands and THE duty free shopper's paradise in the Caribbean. Charlotte Amalie is the capital – and this quaint town is a joy to walk around with its cobbled streets and alley ways filled with the best shops in the Caribbean – but not so much "in your face" as the other islands. Unlike most of the other islands this is the US of A in the Caribbean – it is clean, organised and well run; you may think that you are in one of the Florida Keys. The best beach is Magens Bay (voted one of the top 10 beaches of the world) and is approximately 6 miles away from the capital on the other side of the island.
