Oranjestad (Aruba)

Aruba is situated just 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela at the Southern end of the Caribbean. This island is just 5 Miles wide by 19 Miles long so getting around does not take long and is relatively in-expensive. The north side of the island has an exposed rocky coast while the south coast has the soft white sand beaches, great shopping, stunning sea and desert landscape views. All of this can be experienced from the capital Oranjestad with its heavy Dutch influences. The closet beaches to the capital are Surfside Beach and Druif Beach both with soft white sand. Aruba is a mecca for American tourist and beach holidays. Ships moor at the quayside and it is a short walk into town.

The Tony Hotel South Beach

The award-winning The Hotel of South Beach is housed in a historic Art Déco building and is excellently situated between Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Ocean Drive on Miami South Beach is the main beach drag in the heart of the neon-lit area lined with bars and restaurants where the tanned and toned rub shoulders with the diners, drinkers, sunbathers and swimmers. This is party central with everything contained in one area. Perhaps have dinner in the Versace mansion, go shopping in one of the huge shopping malls of Miami such as Port Aventura Mall and Biscayne Bay; or simply relax on the beach.

Independence of the Seas

Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas launched in May 2008 and is the final ship in the trio Freedom class of ship. At just under 160,000 this ship is among the larger cruise ships afloat carrying 3,634 passengers (double occupancy) over 15 passenger decks. She underwent a major amplification programme in 2018 costing $100 million which added some great new features including Perfect Storm water slides, Splashaway Bay, "Battle for Planet Z" glow-in-the-dark laser tag, New escape room, Improved ice rink, Fish & Ships by the pool and new lounges.

This ship is a lovely size so as not to feel overwhelmed but with enough going on across its vast range of facilities to keep you more than occupied. There are 18 dining options, 6 pools and 3 adrenalin pumping waterslides. There are specific areas on board for children, families and adults only which appeals to all types of holiday maker from all walks of life.

The Royal Promenade is a central avenue on board lined with bars, restaurants, shops and cafes. Look out for fabulous parade party events during each cruise. The solarium is an adult only pool space with retractable glass roof and cantilevered whirlpools. The main pool area features a movie screen for alternative evening entertainment from the theatre, casino and nightclub. Of particular note is the Studio B Ice Rink for ice skating spectaculars and it also converts into a large entertainment space for dancing and laser tag. Curaçao

The volcanic island of Curaçao is sandwiched in between Bonaire and Aruba and is lies in the far South of the Caribbean just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The capital Willemstad is a cosy Dutch haven with its neat row houses which are 17th and 18th century Dutch colonial buildings. Visit the Hato Caves formed from coral reefs, the freshwater waterfall and Shete Boka National Park with its limestone tidal cavern. The Ostrich Farm is the largest outside of Africa where you can feed the birds and watch the Ostrich dance. Best souvenir buys are Delft pottery and of course the Sapphire Blue Liqueur – Curacao.

Grand Turk (Turks and Caicos)

About a quarter mile from the western beaches at Grand Turk, the sea floor drops 7,000 feet right down into dark blue. Just at the edge of the drop-off, there's a reef pocked with arches, turrets, and tunnels called the Grand Turk Wall. The reef is a haven for fish, and with its clear water, for divers, too. Grand Turk is also fringed with amazing white sandy beaches making it a beach-lovers paradise.
